Gracie Buchan

About the artist

“As an artist I enjoy using people from all over the world to inspire my artworks, and since starting this course I took an interest in making paintings and drawings of flowers. I love using acrylic and ink the most to make bright and colourful artworks.”

“I have used this course to develop my skills in my drawing and painting as well as learning more about printmaking, which I have loved doing. This course has helped me learn new techniques, know more about different artists, it has helped me improve my painting skills and taught me how to make many different types of prints. I would like to further develop my skills and aim to go to art school in the future.”

About the artist

“Art has been a constant presence in my life, offering me a way to express myself and to explore the world around me in an alternative way.  From colourful comics and odd plasticine creatures in early primary school, and now to my prints, paintings, and sculptures, I have always felt a sense of joy in bringing my artistic visions to life.”

“While I wouldn’t say that I have an overall theme in my work, I have taken inspiration in the vibrant energy of cities, the more peaceful beauty of nature, and Mesoamerican and ancient south American use of pattern, with my output being shells, rope, buildings, and birds.”

“I have enjoyed the variety of media that we have explored, particularly liking expressive painting, sculpture, and printmaking.  I plan to apply to the HNC Contemporary Art Practice to continue developing my skills, as well as adding to my portfolio.”

About the artist

“When I was younger, I drew a picture of a knight in a field of flowers and my Nonna (grandmother) loved it so much she put it on her fridge. This encouragement from a young age for my artwork has driven me to think about a career in Art and Design. I have always enjoyed drawing portraits in pencil and joined this course to expand my techniques and skills in drawing. I have enjoyed learning to use so many different materials and have developed my skill in painting.”

“I chose the theme of Decay for my project work and have looked at animal skulls. I have refined my graphite drawings and have enjoyed working with chalks and charcoal. I have really enjoyed using my drawings to develop into Prints, in particular Lino Reduction. I have used these drawings to create 3D work clay.”

“In the future I want to go into tattooing and will build up a folio to secure an apprenticeship in a tattoo studio.”

About the artist

“One of my favourite things to do since I was young is draw people, animals, vehicles and houses, things that might be outdoors or that may involve a lot of detail. Detailed drawings have always been a passion of mine, when I do them, I feel proud, and I like my work to be neat and precise.”

“I have been very much enjoying developing my drawing skills this year and I choose the theme of insects. I have enjoyed working with graphite, coloured pencils, charcoal, watercolour paint and acrylic paint. My love of accuracy and detail is best caught with pencil and graphite. My drawing skills have greatly improved, and I would like to continue working with different materials and techniques.”
