About the artist

“I completed this course after leaving school, and as a continuation from previous school link courses at National 4 & National 5 in Fashion and Textile Technology to improve and learn more skills.”

“I chose the theme ‘Earth Tones’ for my project as I love nature and liked the colours, shapes and patterns that went with this theme. I got past any difficulties though my project with the help and encouragement of my tutors and classmates.”

“I look forward to trying a new course at UHI West Highland next year to try something new.”

About the artist

“My Earth Tones project was inspired by dusty rocks and minerals, foliage, and arid mountains. I developed the design through drawing, batik wax resist, printmaking, weaving and various experiments before deciding to pursue punch needle tufting to create my final piece: a hand-tufted rug.”

“I used sustainable natural fibres like wool and cotton, and the flat parts of the fabric that is tufted into is hand-painted with natural avocado dye. The rug can be used as a wall hanging or laid on the floor, it has a non-slip backing for a professional finish.”

“The course was perfect to set aside time to be creative, as I always found it hard to fit in around work since graduating from uni ten years ago. While we had a brief for the project, there was freedom to follow any techniques or styles to get what we wanted out of it. It was also great getting to know such lovely and fun people during the course including my classmates, lecturer and others around campus.”

About the artist

“As a 23-year-old from Fort William with a passion for creative arts, I am excited to showcase my own designed and manufactured dress in the end of year exhibition.”

“The dress embodies timeless style and elegance. I am proud of the outcome and have learned valuable lessons about pattern drawing and manufacturing techniques along the way. Presenting this dress allows me to share my growth as a designer and my passion for wearable art".”

”My interpretation of the theme ‘Folk Story’ combines my Scottish and Greek heritage, taking influences from both cultures. With each project, I aim to refine my skills and create garments that reflect my personal style while resonating with the audience.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and showcase my work alongside other talented individuals.”
